Under 9's D Hope Valley - Friday 15th January
After having a break over Christmas and many weeks off due to Mother Nature, the under 9’s where chomping at the bit to play and that reflected in an outstanding performance in a Day/Night 20 over game vs Hope Valley at Valley Oval. After winning the toss, the Rams batted first and posted another great total in 4 for 58. Bailey Simpson got the team off to a great start with 7 retired and he was ably supported by Tyson Rowe 10 retired and Ryleigh Travis with 5 retired. Star of the show, Jeremy Baker, scored 6 retired and took 2 for 2 off 2 overs with the ball. Great bowling and fielding restricted Hope Valley to 4 for 38 off their 20 overs with Riley Nisbet also picking up 2 wickets. (2 for 1). An excellent evening was had by players and spectators alike and full credit to Hope Valley for hosting such an enjoyable fixture.
Under 11's D Pooraka
The Under 11's recorded their first win of the season, by 21 runs over Pooraka. Solid batting saw the team score 98. Although the extras are an issue our bowlers managed to restrict the visitors to 77 in reply. Photos below:

Under 13 Red D Walkerville
Back in round 2 Walkerville Blue's batting was fantastic as they scored a solid win against the 13's Red. However, the dramatic improvement in the bowling by our boys has been evident in the last 2 games. Gepps batted first and solid performances by the players saw them score a reasonable total of 6 for 74. Another 20 would have been nice! We welcomed Connor and Taylor to the team. Another set of twins, along with Luke and Jesse, although Connor and Taylor are identical. All the boys bowled superbly, with Shaun and Callum taking 3 wickets each to restrict Walkies to 53 all out. Under 15's D Goodwood
The Under 15's continued their terrific form with a 54 run win over Goodwood away. Wickets were shared, with Luke, 2 for 9, and Jacob, Jack, Ben, Steven and Gage taking one each. Matthew top scored with 75 not out, Jacob made 13 and Steven 12.

Round 6 - 13 & 20 December

Under 9 2/112 D Modbury White 52

The Under 9's scored another yet another terrific win against a very young and inexperienced Modbury team. (Is there any other kind of Under 9 team?). Lachlan, Tyson and Ryleigh all retired on double figures while Brayden retired on 8. With the ball Chloe took 2 for 6, Jesse 2 for 4 and Matthew 2 for 0.
Modbury White D Under 11
Once again the Under 11's just failed to get over the line in a very competitive match. Gepps batted first, scoring 82. They had Modbury in trouble at 6/40 but the visitors fought back and scored the winning runs with a couple of overs remaining.
Under 13 Red 8/152 D Eastern Suburbs 75
Gepps managed their highest total so far this season, making 7/154. Aidan made 45no, Callum and James 17no, Ryan 16no and Luke, 12. In their most impressive effort with the ball they dismissed the visitors for 75. James took 3/8 and Ryan 2/8. The other wickets were shared. The most impressive aspect of the win was the lack of extras. Just 14 in total, compared to 50 in the first couple of games. Also worthy of note is the accurate bowling of Steven, Luke and Jesse who conceded just 11 runs off 9 overs, between them, making scoring very difficult for the visitors.
Hope Valley 6/181 D Under 13 Blue
The formerly top-of-the-ladder Under 13 Blue team finally met their match at St Paul's College. Hope Valley dominated some of our bowlers and the extras mounted with some wayward bowling. The batting failed to fire and the team suffered its first loss of the season. Suprising when two of the team played for the Under 17's later in the day and contributed 25 runs.

The opposition failed to show. Our boys go 8 weeks without a match. Enough said.

Play on the 15th abandoned due to heat.
Play on the 22nd will be one-day games.
Payneham Red V Under 9
The under 9’s played Payneham in a one day game because of last week's cancellation due to the extreme heat.
Gepps Cross batted first and posted an excellent total of 3 for 103 off there 20 overs. Although the score was made up of many extras, several batsmen made runs. Top of the tree was Tyson Rowe who hit an unbeaten 19 and he was well supported by Flynn Robertson 6 retired and Lachlan Borg 5 retired.
That total was always going to be a tough one to chase and when early wickets fell to Bailey Simpson (1-3), Riley Nisbet (1-2) and Lachlan Borg (1-0) the job was even tougher. To their credit Payneham steadied and finished on 3 for 63 from 20 overs.

Western Youth V Under 15
A terrific return to form after the disappointment of round 3. Western Youth batted first and a superb performance in the field saw them dismissed for 77 in 25 overs. Steven took 1/1, Adam 2/4, Ben 2/9 and Jack, 2/13. Gepps made 177 in reply with newcomer, Ben Mignone, top scoring with 46, 12 year old Steven made 38, Jack - 12 and Josh - 13. After 4 rounds the 15's are 2-2.

Round 3 - 1 & 8/11/09

Under 9 4/115 D Modbury Red 7/107
The under 9’s this week played their first 2 day game of the season against Modbury at Modbury Oval. Again they won the toss and again chose to bat on a very difficult wicket and again the openers got us off to a great start with Riley Nisbet making 7 ret to start the innings. Ryleigh Travis then carried on the great work with 12 ret and was well supported by Tyson Rowe 14 ret. Star of the show was Lachlan Borg with an unbeaten 24 including four 4’s. A special mention to Sparsh who score his first run for the club with a lovely cover drive to complete a magnificent team total of 4 for 115 off 30 overs.Day 2 of the Rams v Hawks U/9 match was highlighted by an outstanding team effort with the ball and in the field. Modbury batted well all day but lost regular wickets. Tyson Rowe (1/8) started the fine display with a direct hit run out then followed up with a wicket of his own when bowling. Then Flynn Robertson chased down a well hit shot and threw to Bailey Simpson, who affected another run out at the bowler end. Next came a wicket for Flynn (1/3) off his bowling which was well caught by Bailey Simpson (1/11) who then followed up with a wicket for himself as well with the ball. The great display continued with wickets from Brodie Polkinghorne (1/10) and Sparsh (1/26) which rounded out a magnificent effort to restrict Modbury to 107 for 7 off their 30 overs. A good reward for their efforts at training but still plenty to work on in the coming weeks.

Golden Grove 3/115 D Under 11 7/105
The Under 11's got within 10 runs of what would have been a great result against Golden Grove. Extras are an issue as we are still conceding too many 'free' runs to our opponents, but the team fought well with the bat to just fall short.

Walkerville Blue 160 & 3/13 D Under 13 Red 81
The Under 13 Red team improved in the field after their first round loss to Ingle Farm and managed to hold out Walkerville for 42 overs. Aidan, Callum, James and Shaun all did well with the bat. Walkerville batted again as there were 5 overs still to be bowled and lost 3 wickets: 2 to Aidan and 1 to Ryan.

Under 13 Blue D Ingle Farm (outright)
After a dismal first innings the hosts, Ingle Farm, batted much better in their second to set up a 40 run lead. Gepps got the required runs easily, however, to score an outright win. Nathan made 31 not out.
Marion D Under 15 (outright)
A very poor second innings performance saw the 15's lose outright to Marion. Needing to bat out the 28 overs remaining, the 15's seemed to lose all commitement and responsibility and simply threw away their wickets.

The Under 13's Red and Under 13's White teams met in a 20-20 twilight game on Friday, October 30. In a terrific match the Blue team got up in the last over with just a couple of balls remaining. Although the Red team was dismissed for 53 they bowled and fielded well to restrict the Blue team to 6/57. The match could have gone either way but the Blue team has booked a spot in round 2 in November.

Now it's back to the two day games with the Blue team playing Ingle Farm away and the Red team meeting Walkerville at Gepps Cross.

Walkerville Blue 2/89 D Under 9 2/79

On a day better suited for footy rather than cricket, the U/9’s had their second match of the season against Walkerville Blue at Leroy Oval.
They won another toss and elected to bat and set about posting another fantastic total of 2 for 79 off 20 overs. Shaye Baggio-Buller got her first runs for the Rams with an excellent 4 retired to start the innings and was well backed up by Matthew Pert with 6 retired. Jeremy Baker hit shots to all parts of the ground to make a handsome10 retired and Bailey Simpson again was amongst the runs with 10 retired as well. Walkerville batted very steadily and with the help of some wayward bowling managed to sneak past the Rams total in the 2nd to last over before finishing on 2 for 89 after their 20 overs. Tyson Rowe chipped in with a wicket to go along with 6 retired with the bat and a great bowl from Flynn Robinson knocked over the castle for his first ever wicket. Overall another great team effort in difficult conditions.

Under 11 V Walkerville Blue 5/98 D Under 11 9/62
Jack Birse and Matthew Holman did well for the 11's in their one-dayer against Walkerville. Jack scored 10 and took 2 for 6, Matthew took 2 for 2. The players looked a little rusty, particularly when batting but will improve.

Ingle Farm 6/146 D Under 13 Red 6/75
Extras were a real problem for the 13's Red as they took on a very talented Ingle Farm team boasting many district players. Wides and byes took the Farmers total to well over 100, a total which was always going to be a challenge. James, with 3 wickets including an excellent caught-and-bowled, did well. The run chase started poorly with Malik run out at the non-strikers end but Aidan, 24* and Ryan, 11* steadied the ship. The batsmen showed application and to lose only 6 wickets was a credit to them. James was 8 not-out at the end. Things can only get better!
Under 13 Blue 3/95 D Modbury Red 29
Newcomer, Brodie, really impressed with a terrific knock in his debut in club cricket. The Rams easily disposed of Modbury and cruised to a comfortable win.
The bowling, fielding and batting were first-class but the team still has plenty of room to improve.

Under 15 6/165 D North Haven 114
Once again Jack Gibbs played a very mature innings of 52, well supportted by Jacob Charles - 31, Stefan Wockel - 23 and Steven Tahana 17. The bowlers performed superbly, with Charles taking 4/20, Ollie Markov - 3/8 and Adam Saint - 2/11.

Under 9 7/72 D Eastern Dragons 2/61
The under 9’s won the toss and chose to bat first against Eastern Dragons in their first game of the season. After their 20 overs the Rams had compiled an impressive 4 for 72 with Bailey Simpson top scoring with 16 not out including three 4’s. Tyson Rowe also hit a couple of boundaries on his way to 10 not out and they where well supported by Lachlan Borg 8 n.o and Matthew Bell with 6 n.o.
The Dragons started the run chase quickly before some tight bowling and fielding restricted them to 2 for 61 from their 20 overs. A great direct hit run out from Jeremy Baker started the great display in the field with the other wicket coming from a magnificent delivery from Lachlan Borg.
Riley Nisbet, Jesse Manning, Flynn Robertson and Shaye Baggio-Buller all contributing in their first game of cricket for the Rams, and a great team effort by all players.

Brighton 7/126 D Under 15 5/115
Jack Gibbs starred with bat and ball as an undermanned Under 15's took on Brighton away in a one-dayer. The Rams scored a steady 5/115, with Gibbs 48*, Smith 9 and Wittenberg 9 not out, assisted by a couple of Under 13's who also made double figures.
After cruising to 2/70 a collapse saw Brighton under pressure but they held on to pass Gepps total in the penultimate over. Gibbs took 2/7 and Andrews 2/15.
Although we didn't get the points we were far more competitive than we thought we would be first up and the future is promising. Another player or two would be handy!

Day 1:
Well, after all of the confusion about which teams would contest the grand final, the Under 15's finally made it to Daly Reserve to play Hectorville.

Despite the regular fall of wickets, disciplined batting by the Hounds saw them total 159 with just a couple of overs left in the day. Leading wicket takers for Gepps Cross were Mohammad, Bradley, Josh, (from the Under 13's), and Jacob with 2 each.

160 plus will not be an easy target next Sunday, particularly against a steady attack like Hectorville's.

(The Under 9's were set to play Ingle Farm but, due to a lack of players, Ingle Farm didn't appear so the kids and their parents combined for a family match, followed by a BBQ at the club).

Day 2:
Steady batting by Gepps Cross saw them off to a solid start, with Dylan and Jordan opening. Wickets fell regularly, with solid contributions from Mohammad, 28, and Ricky 20.
With 8 wickets down and 30 needed Scott, 19, came to the crease and formed a solid partnership with Sing to get to 159. Josh from the Under 13's scored the winning run with plenty of overs to spare.
It was a solid team performance and Hectorville played with great spirit. They would be a little disappointed with the number of extras and some fielding lapses but the game went right down to the wire and they never gave up.

Junior Cricket - Round 13 and Season summary

Well, apart from an Under 9's one-day game between Gepps Cross and Ingle Farm on Sunday 22, the season ended on a cloudy and, eventually, wet Sunday.

Due to some confusion over the venue, there was no real play on day one of the season ending two day game between Gepps Cross and Ingle Farm. Thinking that the game was being played elsewhere only a couple of Ingle Farm boys turned up for the game so a 'scratch match' was arranged instead, with all players batting and bowling four overs. Although there was obviously no result, all the kids had a great time and there was some tremendous emerging talent on show.
The teams will end the season with a one-day game on the 22nd of March.

Overall the Under 9's team, our first in this grade, were brilliant all season and will improve further as many of them will be Under 9's again in 09-10. Several totals in excess of 100 and a couple of wins are just a preview of what awaits these children in future years. Andrew had a tough job all year as coach but did a brilliant job in teaching these rookies the finer points of the game.

The majority of our first Under 11's team will be in the same grade next season and the experience they have gained will be invaluable as they pull on the creams next year. There were some outstanding performances with bat and ball and, although the team recorded just 1 win, they were competitive in most games. Darren did a fantastic job as coach.

The Under 13's season was played in two halves. Before Christmas they were very competitive, losing a couple of games by less than 10 runs, or just a wicket or two. Wides, byes and no-balls were a contributing factor in most losses. After Christmas, however, the team blossomed and won their last three games, one an outright win. Again, most of the boys will be Under 13's next season and, if they can commence the season like they ended this one, the future looks very bright indeed. Steven, with 230 runs, and Josh, with 22 wickets, were major contributors in what was a fantastic team effort. We thank Tim, Shane and Paul for their coaching this season.

The Under 15's headed to St. Pauls College, hoping to overtake Hope Valley's total of 9 for 210 and book a place in the grand final.

That wasn't to be, however, as the pitch had been watered and play was abandoned. Due to Hope Valley finishing higher on the ladder, they were awarded the game.
We wish them well in the final as they are all terrific boys and have been the big improvers this season.

Our Under 15's season began with a roar and ended with a whimper. The main issue was the lack of any play between December 21 and February 8. The 15's should have had at least 2 matches in that period but one team forfeited a 2 day game and the weather saw another abandoned. The Association should consider strong financial penalties for teams forfeiting games
as their opponents also miss out on match play.

Following intervention by the Adelaide Turf Cricket Association, the Under 15's have been awarded the right to play Hectorville in the grand final, despite drawing with Hope Valley in the semi-final. The semi-final was abandoned on day two after the pitch was found to be unsuitable for play.

A fully prepared pitch was available within 5 minutes drive of St Paul's College, but the offer to play there was eventually declined, despite being approved by the umpires.

It should be stressed that the Hope Valley PLAYERS had nothing to do with the situation.

The Gepps Cross Under 15's will play Hectorville at Daly Reserve on Sundays 22 & 29 March at 1pm.

We will welcome all children and teens aged 7 to 17 for the 2009-2010 season.

The Under 9's took on Payneham in a one-day match which proved to be a beauty.
Batting first, Payneham scored 3 for 64 off their 20 0vers, a fantastic effort by Gepps Cross to restrict an experienced team with only 16 extras conceded by our bowlers. In recent weeks this total has been as high as 35, so a great effort by all Rams bowlers. Standouts with the ball where Matthew Holman with 2 for 5 and Jeremy Baker with 1 for 12.
The run chase got off to a frantic start with Lachlan Borg (9 n.o) and Jeremy Baker (4) scoring 16 runs in four overs before a mini collapse saw Gepps lose many wickets for few runs. Riley Henricks (6 n.o), Tyson Rowe (5 n.o) and Bailey Simpson (1 n.o) steadied the ship before just falling short of the required runs. The final total 8 for 52 was an excellent effort and the continual improvement of all players was a delight to see.
Last game of the season puts the Rams against Ingle Farm in a two day game at home.

The Under 11's had a bye to complete their season.

The Under 13's travelled to Gleeson College in Golden Grove to take on the unbeaten, top-of-the-ladder, Kookaburras. Gepps batted first and got off to a solid, if slow, start. After being one for 33 half way through their 30 over innings, the run rate accelerated, with Ollie smashing 24 in quick time. Gage, 13, Nathan, 10 n.o., Blake, 10 n.0.,(his highest score), and Aidan,11, scored the majority of the 8 for 102 total.

102 was going to be difficult to defend, particularly against the top team, but the Gepps bowling and fielding continued to show the improvement of the last month or so, demonstated by 2 run-outs and 3 very good catches. Wickets fell regularly and Golden Grove needed 16 of the last over, bowled by Ethan. He only conceded 5, however, and Gepps won by 11 runs. Stefan took 2 for 16, and Ollie, Josh, Gage, Ethan, Nathan and Ryan took 1 each.
The boys finished the season with 4 solid wins, including the last three games and also scored the only outright win in the grade. With their leading batsman, Steven, and three top wicket takers, Josh, Nathan and Ryan, set to have another year in the 13's, the future looks bright.

The Under 15's took on Hope Valley on day one of the semi-final at St. Paul's College.
Hope Valley were 9 for 137 at one stage but their last pair added 73 runs, frustrating the bowlers and the field. Valley's total of 9 for 210 will be difficult to chase but, being a 72 over game, the batsmen will have time to build their innings.

Junior Cricket - Round 11

In the Under 9's, round 11 saw Gepps Cross win another toss and elect to bat against Eastern Dragons. Some determined batting saw the Rams posting an excellent score 9 for 61 off their 30 overs. Top scorers where Lachlan Borg with 14 not out and Matthew Holman with 9.
Day 2 saw an excellent display of cricket from all players on both sides thrilling everyone in attendance. Matthew Holman continued his brilliant game with two catches, one of was one of the best caught and bowled you will see in any levels of cricket, 1 for 9 off 3 overs and a stumping whilst having a stint behind the stumps. Lachlan Borg also having a great game with a sparkling run out and 1 for 4 off 3.
Izaac Allard also joined the party with 2 for 12 off his three overs. Eastern Dragons finally making 5 for 79 off there allotted overs.

The Under 11's headed to Tregenza Oval to play Eastern Suburbs. Gepps Cross won the toss and batted and scored 7 for 65 off 40 overs.

All batsmen did well to show value for their wicket on a dodgy wicket which was damp at the start of play. It was great to see the boys bat out the alloted overs.

The Under 13's took the field against Modbury with only 10 players as Nathan was injured and Blake had appendicitis. The game started well with Ollie taking a great diving catch behind the stumps. The boys catching was a highlight as I can only recall one missed opportunity when two players collided. Ryan - 3 for 17, Josh - 3 for 33, Nathan - 2 for 6 and Gage - 2 for 7 did the damage. Liam, Stefan, Ollie, Steven and Nathan took some great catches to dismiss Modbury for 117 in 30 overs.

Gepps had 11 overs to bat and scored quickly to finish the day's play on 4 for 79. Steven - 33 and Josh 17 made the bulk of the runs.

Resuming on day two, Aidan and Nathan formed a superb 70 run partnership with Man-of-the-Match, Aidan, making an unbeaten 56 and Nathan scoring a career best 26. Ryan also scored a quick-fire 15. Gepps Cross was finally dismissed for 201, a lead of 84.

The boys had just 55 minutes in the field to try and score an outright win and, at one stage had Modbury 8 for 15. After a couple of brilliant run-outs Modbury was finally dismissed for 40, giving the Rams a win by an innings and 44 runs. Ryan - 4 wickets, Josh - 2, and Steven - 2 were the pick of the bowlers.

The Under 15's headed to Gleeson College to play Golden Grove. It was top versus second to consolidate a place in the top four.
The 15's started well with an early wicket to Jordan but Golden Grove got on top for the next 30 overs or so. A late rally by Gepps saw us dismiss the remaining batsmen for 251.

The Gepps Cross bats were always going to struggle, with leading run scorer Jordan, unavailable ,and the boys could manage just 105 in reply. Ricky scored 30 and Tyrone 23. Great credit to Luke, the youngest player in the team, who batted for 75 minutes and scored 5 runs. A lesson in dedication for some others. Golden Grove had another bat, scoring 1 for 101.

Junior Cricket Round 10

Having to jump between junior cricket and junior footy registration day made obtaining detailed reports of the first day's play in cricket difficult to obtain.

In footy the Club had it's best registration day ever with over 170 players, many of them new, joining the Rams for 2009. With many more players training but yet to register, the team structure for 2009 is looking very strong. BOYS AND GIRLS turning 5 or 6 in 2009 are still needed for our Under 6 teams PLUS a few boys turning 12 or 13 for our Under 13's team.

In cricket, the Under 9's batted first in their game against Modbury Blue. The 9's total of 84, all out, was very competitive. Lachlan, Riley, Matthew H, Jarrod, Bailey and Matthew B all scoring multiple runs.
Defending 84 runs was always going to be difficult but the 9’s pushed Modbury all the way. Some excellent batting and creative boundary placements gave the Hawks every chance of scoring runs with them finally passing the Gepps total with only 3 balls to spare. Excellent bowling from Matthew Hollman with 0 for 0 off 3 overs, Tyson Rowe with 1 for 7 off 3 overs and a brilliant spell of 2 for 6 off 2 overs from Ryleigh Travis where the highlights of the day.

The Under 11's didn't have a good time with the bat against Payneham, dismissed for just 12.
On day 2 the boys bowled well and took some wickets, with Adrian taking 3 for 8 and Hrishi getting a runout from a direct hit, but the game was decided by stumps on the previous Sunday.
Payneham declared at 4 for 168. In reply the boys batted solidly for 20 overs to avoid outright defeat. Adrian and Jacob each scored 5 n.o. and Lachlan 5 in our total of 7 for 36.
Special mention for Kyle Polkinghorne who although did not score remained not out in both innings and showed great value for his wicket. All boys fielded well and showed good fighting spirit.

The Under 13's began well in the field against Walkerville but allowed Walkies to get away late in their innings. Josh P took 2 for 8.
A tremendous team effort on day two saw the boys score 178 to record what was a comfortable win. Gage and Ollie saw the team off to a solid start and Steven - 29, Ryan -27, Josh - 21, EJ - 14 and Liam 11 not out, guided the team to victory. Every player contributed, however. Liam deserves great praise, in particular, because he had only scored 1 run previously this season and batted for many overs today, finishing with 11 not out. He played some superb defensive shots. Aidan hit the winning runs with a couple of overs to spare and contributed 8. Stefan also chipped in with some powerful hitting.

The Under 15's struggled against quality bowling from Hope Valley, dismissed for 115.
Hope Valley lost 3 early wickets in reply, but had no problems overtaking our score early on day two. They eventually totalled 251. Gepps finished at 1 for 34 in their second innings. Excellent bowling, batting and fielding from the visitors.

Junior Cricket - Round 9

After losing the toss the under 9’s were sent into bat on day one of a two day game vs Hope Valley Red.
Runs flowed freely from the first over with all batters getting valuable time in the middle. Despite excellent bowling and fielding from Hope Valley, the Rams scored a magnificent 5 for 107 with 55 runs being scored off the bat.
Regular run machine Riley Henricks made a handsome 18 retired and there were big contributions from Lachlan Borg - 7 n.o and Izaac Allard - 7 n.o. Jarrod Cotgrove and Matthew Bell also got amongst the runs with 6 apiece as well.
A great effort by all players to help Hope Valley in the field as they were a couple short of the required 11 players. Next week will provide a great opportunity for the Rams to continue their vast improvement as they get a chance to bowl at the Demons batters.

The Under 11's hosted Walkerville and bowled and fielded superbly to restrict the visitors to 8 for 116. Lachlan and Hrishi each took two wickets, with one each to Jack, Liam, Nick and Lachlan. Keeper, Caleb, took two catches in a fine display behind the stumps.

The Under 13's headed to Kilburn with trepidation. Our two leading run scorers and leading wicket taker were away, and another two boys were unavailable. Nine boys did turn up, however, and showed fantastic commitment with the bat against the best bowling we have faced all season. Kilburn have the two fastest bowlers we have seen in the Under 13's, but our boys played with courage. Gage stood out, batting almost the entire innings and playing some superb shots to score 42. Adrian made 17 and last man in, Jesse, (who came out of retirement for the game), scored 9 not out. Huge credit also to Nathan Ba who, although not scoring a run, figured in a 33 run partnership with Gage, against the two fast bowlers. GREAT EFFORT BOYS!

The Under 15's, after the opposition forfieted, now have a bye. They haven't played for 6 weeks. Not good!
Due to the current heatwave all junior games scheduled for Sunday, February 1, have been cancelled so all games end in a draw.

Junior Cricket - Round 8

Again the under 9’s came up against some quality opposition and again put on a great display of cricket.
Batting first and facing excellent, consistent bowling Gepps Cross posted 3 for 39 off their 20 overs. The score could have been far greater had it not been for some excellent fielding from Walkerville. Stars with the bat where Riley Henricks with 7 not out and Lachlan Borg with 4 runs. Bowling too was tough but again all bowlers showed vast improvement with Walkerville managing to score 62 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.
Riley found himself on a hat Trick for the second time in two weeks but again just missed out. Matthew Holman snared a wicket thanks to a great catch from Lachlan and a magnificent run out from Jarrod Cotgrove completed the dismissals.

In Sunny and warm conditions the Under 11's took on Payneham. Only 8 players were available for this game and it showed with our bowlers toiling in the heat and seeing the ball hit to all parts of the oval. Payneham's total of 1 for 150 was obviously going to be impossible to chase with just 8 batsmen but the boys defended solidly and finished a 7 for 27, which was a credit to their commitment and their desire not to be bowled out.

The Under 13's bowled and fielded as well as they have all season, with only a couple of dropped catches diminishing their effort. Gepps batted first and made the seemingly defendable total of 6 for 116. Josh, 29 not out, Ollie, 25 not out, and Ryan, 15, all did well with the bat. Stefan and Steven each scored 8 and Ethan, 6. Nathan scored his first ever run.

Gage, Blake and Josh each took 2 wickets, with Nathan taking 1, and there was one run-out.
A recent reduction in the number of wides, from around 30 to less than 10, shows these first year Under 13's are improving and will develop further in 09-10. But, despite our best efforts, Modbury scored too freely in the middle overs to total 8 for 143. We did get a double hattrick - 4 wickets in 4 balls spread over two overs.

The Under 15's did not play due to the Eastern Dragon's forfeit

The under 9’s return after the Christmas/New year break saw them take on Payneham Blue in a one day game at Trinity Gardens. The young Rams won another toss and elected to bat first and then set about posting a very competitive total of 8 for 57. Some more aggressive hitting and running could have seen this total made even bigger but still a good score against some quality bowling. Stars with the bat included Jarrod Cotgrove with 4, Bailey Simpson with 5 and Lachlan Borg with 7 not out.
Payneham’s run chase got off to a very shaky start thanks to a brilliant second over from Jarrod Cotgrove which saw him on a hat trick which he narrowly missed completing. Steady batting and some poor fielding saw Payneham post consistent partnerships until a late over spell from Riley Henriks shook the Dukes again. 3 wickets for 1 run off 2 overs saw Riley also nearly take a hat trick but like Jarrod just fell short. Second gamer Sparsh chipped in for his first wicket for the club to help restrict Payneham to 7 for 76 off their 20 overs. A great effort by all players with further improvement shown again.

The Under 11's were a little rusty after the break but bowled and fielded well to restrict Modbury to 4 for 88. Adrian took 1 for 2 and Liam 1 for 9. Gepps fell well short in reply to be dismissed for 38. Liam made 7 runs and Jack, five.

The Under 13's took on Ingle Farm at Ingle Farm Primary School and bowled and fielded well to restrict the hosts to 99. Josh took his 10th wicket, while Nathan Brice took his 9th. Ollie took his first two wickets for the season. He's been very unlucky this season as most batsmen just block him due to his pace. The other Nathan took his first wicket for the season. Stefan and Ryan were the other wicket takers. It was a great match for Nathan Brice who also top scored with 17, 4 boundries and a single, while Steven made 15 to record his 150th run for the season. But, after being 3 for 54, and well placed to get the runs, the wheels really fell off and the remaining batsmen failed to add to the total, losing 5 for 0! As we only had 8 batsmen the game was over and Ingle Farm recorded a solid win.

Unfortunately the Under 15's match against the Eastern Dragons, a two-day game, was forfeited by the opposition so, although we get maximum match points, we won't gain any batting and bowling bouns points and, after a three week break, the boys needed to play. All was not lost, however, as some parents and Under 13's joined with the 15's to form two teams of 9 and they played a full 36 overs a side game. I took part in this game, something my back and knees will regret for a few days. If the Eastern Dragons front up next Sunday, the 18th, we will have a one-day practice match.

Junior Cricket - Round 6

A beautiful sunny day greeted the under 9’s after last weekend's wonderful wet weather caused day one of a two day game against Modbury Gold to be cancelled. Today’s fixture was a one day game with both sides getting to strut their stuff in an exciting 20 overs game.
Gepps Cross batted first and where made to work hard against an experienced Hawks team but posted an excellent total of 6 for 42.
Main contributors were Bailey Simpson 5 n.o, Riley Henriks 6 n.o and also a fine 6 n.o from Isaac Allard in a partnership of 15 runs from 4 overs with Riley.
Modbury got off to a very fast start collecting runs with ease before Gepps Cross lifted to apply pressure to the Modbury batsman. Lachlan Borg again chipped in with a wicket as did regular wicket taker Jeremy Baker. In scenes reminiscent of a Redbacks run chase, run outs began to unravel the Hawk’s previously steady batting and by innings end an incredible 5 run outs had been executed. Direct hits from Matthew Hollman, Isaac Allard, Riley Henricks and Jarrod Cotgrove plus a brilliant throw from Matthew Hollman to keeper Riley helped restrict Modbury to a well made 7 for 81. The Under 9’s should feel very proud of their efforts against a side that contained a majority of second year players.
A well earned rest for Christmas is next for the junior Rams before a return in the New Year for more exciting cricket.

The Under 11's headed to Pooraka for a one day game also and went down narrowly in a tight game. Some wayward bowling from the Rams saw Pooraka post a competitive total of 4 for 97. Despite the best efforts of Jack - 24 n.o., Caleb - 15 n.o., and Jacob - 11 n.o. Gepps fell 14 runs short but, being first year Under 11's, will have another season in the grade to improve their skills.

The same applies to the Under 13's, with the majority of the boys still able to play 13's in '09-10.
Some terrific batting from a couple of Hope Valley boys saw them to a total of 6 for 154 in their 30 overs. Ryan took 2 wickets with Steven, Stefan, Gage and Nathan taking 1 each. Despite some excellent batting from Steven - 38 n.o., Ollie - 18, Aidan - 16 and Stefan - 7, Gepps fell 33 runs short in a tough chase at over 5 runs per over. Wides and no balls are still an issue for the bowlers and it's an area where we are 'gifting' the opposition 40 to 50 runs per innings.

The Under 15's took on second placed Ingle Farm and won easily. Alex, in his first game for the Rams, took 3 for 8 on debut while Mohammad took 5 for 9. Great to see the youngest players in the team get amongst the wickets! Ricky and Tyrone were the other wicket takers. Ingle Farm were dismissed for 103.
Gepps struggled to 3 for 29 at one stage but Bradley - 68 retired, Jordan - 29 n.o. and Tyrone - 54 n.o., (his first 50!), saw Gepps cruise to 8 for 195 in reply. A meritorious win as Ricky and Mohammad, who are regular big scorers, failed in this innings.

Well, we now have a short break before training commences on Monday, January 5.

Gepps Cross Junior Cricket - Round 5

Sunday December 7 saw four one-day matches being played, with three wins and a disappointing loss resulting.

Gepps Cross Under 9's won the toss and elected to bowl in their one day game against Ingle Farm at Ross Smith Secondary School. The decision to bowl paid immediate dividends with a Bulldogs opener being dismissed off the first ball of the day from Lachlan Borg thanks to a great catch from keeper Riley Henriks. The usual good bowling fell away slightly with many extras being conceded until a sparkling catch by Lachlan sparked the junior Rams into an excellent finish to keep Ingle Farm to 4 for 49 from their 20 overs.
There were other notable bowling performances from Kyle Polkinghorne (1-7), Tyson Rowe (1-7) and Riley Henriks (1-1) after 10 0vers with the gloves.
The run chase proved a very challenging one with only 1 run being scored off the first 4 overs despite some good shots being well fielded by the opposition. An excellent boundary by Jeremy Baker (6 n.o) got the ball rolling and from there the Rams scored a handsome 55 from the remaining 16 overs to finish at 3 for 56 from 20 overs. Major run scorers included James Frankel with 3 n.o, Jarrod Cotgrove also with 3 runs and completing a brilliant all-round effort for the day was Riley Henriks chipping in with 4 n.o.
A two day game at home against Modbury Gold at home provides the next challenge for the under 9’s before a well earned break for Christmas.

The Under 11's have been extremely competitive since round one without getting a win - until today. Kilburn batted very well to score 3 for 91, with Lachlan Travis, Cameron Andrews and Lachlan Greenham all taking a wicket. 91 was a challenging total but the boys managed 3 for 99 in reply. Excellent batting from Caleb Travis, 32 retired, and Jack Birse, 19 not out saw the Rams get the points and move up the ladder.

The Under 13's played a one-day match against Ingle Farm and would be disappointed with their batting and fielding. Ingle Farm scored 5 for 121 off their 30 overs. Gepps couldn't maintain batting discipline, despite the efforts of Stefan, 22, and the wickets fell regularly. Gepps could only total 90, to go down by 31 runs. Congratulations to Liam and Jesse for scoring their first runs and to Blake for taking his first wicket for the Rams.

The Under 15's match between Gepps and Hectorville was a thriller! Steady bowling by Gepps and solid batting, after an early slump, by Heccies saw them post a competitive 7 for 122.
Ricky took 2 wickets. The Rams were in trouble at 3 for 10 after 11 overs but a solid partnership between Mohammad, 46, and Bradley, 31, seemed to set up an easy win. But, wickets steadily fell and 7 runs were needed off the final over, with 9 wickets down. Two boundaries to Jordan saw Gepps Over the line by 1 run, with 2 balls to spare.

Junior Cricket - Round 4

After winning the toss against Hope Valley, the under 9’s elected to bowl on a glorious morning for cricket. With the good weather came some great cricket as Gepps Cross bowled and fielded exceptionally well. The Demons also batted very well and completed their 40 overs with a score of 3/51. Jeremy Baker continued his improvement with the ball to take 2 for 8 which included a great catch from Tyson Rowe whilst Lachlan Borg again bowled well after a stint behind the stumps to take 1 wicket for no runs off 3 overs. Matthew Bell also was amongst the pick of the bowlers, just missing out on a wicket in his spell. Special mention to Isaac Allard and James Frankel who helped out batting for Hope Valley with both players scoring some runs.

The second day of the two day game against Hope Valley started much the same as the first with great weather and great cricket in abundance for the Rams U9’s. Some fantastic bowling and fielding from the Demons made Gepps Cross earn every run and after their 40 overs the under 9’s compiled a handsome score of 5 for 107. Jarrod Cotgrove starred with the bat to make an unbeaten 12 with Riley Henricks also making 12 runs before being dismissed. Solid innings from Lachlan Borg 7 runs, Tyson Rowe 7 n.o and Bailey Simpson 6 n.o made for an enjoyable day for all. A focus at training on calling when running between the wickets was well executed by all batsmen all day and this reflected in the score sheet with every batsmen able to make some runs. All teams get the week off this week so they can watch the Aussie’s play the Kiwi’s but the 9's get back to the action the following week in a one day game away against Ingle Farm.

After a bye, the Under 11's were finally back in action for their first 2 day match, away against Hectorville. Gepps Cross won the toss and elected to bat on a good deck under captain Liam Beames.The first to go was Jon Frankel at 1 for 17. Adrian Baker continued his good form and put on a 31 run partnership until Beames was dismissed for 6. Malik Rankine then entered but Baker was caught for 15 off the last ball before tea with the Rams 3 for 57.
Cameron Andrews batted well and with Rankine the pair put on 40 until he was out bowled. The Rams were then 4 for 97. Leaden Aldenhoven helped push the score over 100but it was Rankine who was the destroyer. He smashed 7 fours in his innings of 34 not out. Jacob Mail, 1, was the other not out batsmen and he did well to give the strike to the well set Rankine. At stumps it was Gepps Cross 5/115 off 40 overs.

On day two the Rams conceded too many runs from wides and byes which allowed Hectorville to overtake the Gepps Cross total with a few overs to spare. Tyson P and Jack B each took two wickets but some solid batting from Hectorville saw them total 5 for 124.

The Under 13's hosted Golden Grove once again and both coaches agreed to play 4 innings of 25 overs, rather than two 50 over innings. Gepps batted first and made 7 for 101. Ollie, 32, Steven, 20, Josh 12, EJ 9 and Ryan 7 made the majority of the runs. Excellent bowling and catching then restricted Golden Grove to 5 for 90 after their 25 overs.

On day 2 Gepps finally dismissed the visitors for 139, with Liam, Nathan, Dakota and EJ each taking 2 wickets. Gepps needed 39 to win, but with just 3 wickets in hand, it was never goping to be easy and we fell 19 runs short, dismissed for 120. Blake, in his first game of cricket bowled well and batted with great maturity and discipline.

The Under 15's batted first against Para Hills and must have come close to posting a record score. After an opening partnership of 193 between brothers, Jordan, 102, and Jacob, 84, Mohammed, the youngest player in the team, scored a very quick 105. Bradley chipped in at the end with a cavalier 37. Scott was 5 not out and Ricky 1.
The very young Para Hills team bowled tidily and some of their fielding was top class but the Gepps batsmen were too experienced and played with commomsense.
On day 2 Para Hills struggled in their first innings and were dismissed for 45, with Bradley taking 4 wickets and Ricky, 3. After following-on the Hills batsmen faced some of our younger bowlers and scored more freely, finally being dismissed for 90. Jordan followed his unbeaten century last Sunday with 4 wickets in Para Hills second innings.

After losing the toss against Payneham Blue, the under 9’s were asked to bat first in a two day match. Despite a damp pitch and slippery outfield, the Gepps Cross batters acquitted themselves very well against some terrific bowling from Payneham. Bailey Simpson scored a gritty 8 not out and he was well backed up by Matthew Pert, also with 8 runs. Tyson Rowe continued his good form of last week with 7 not out. A great job opening the innings in the damp early conditions from Riley Henriks with 4 runs set the tone for the team to compile an excellent score of 5 for 78. Also a special mention to James Frankel who carved out his first runs for the club. On day 2 the under 9’s played in far better conditions for cricket this week and responded accordingly with some fantastic bowling and fielding as they set about defending their fantastic total from last week (5 / 78). Excellent opening overs from Matthew Holman (0-3, 4 overs) and Riley Hendricks (1-4, 4 overs) made the Dukes earn every run and after Lachlan Borg starred behind the stumps with gloves he then proceeded to take 2 for 8 off 3 overs with the ball. All players again showed improvements in bowling, resulting in another reduction in the extras column but struggled to fully concentrate in the field. Tyson Rowe followed up with some good bowling to take 1 for 7 off his 4 overs and some great fielding from Jarrod Cotgrove resulted in a tight tussle right to the finish. With some steady and confident batting, the more experienced Payneham Blue accumulated a total of 4 for 117 from their 40 overs. Hope Valley at home in a two day game this week will provide another opportunity to enjoy more improvement for the Under 9’s.
The Under 13's bowled first in their 2 day match against Golden Grove. In humid conditions the bowlers did well to restrict the visitors to 7 for 118 in their 50 overs. The bowling was fairly tight and there were some superb catches taken. The boys had to be at their very best on day 2 when batting. All in all a great day's play and a credit to both teams. A special mention to Liam who bowled very well in his first game for the Rams.In a wildly fluctuating second day the Under 13's slumped to 8 for 23, (after a quick 18 from Ollie), with a series of poor shots putting pressure on the lower order batsmen. But Steven, 51 not out, Aidan, 15 and Ryan, 11 got Gepps to within 6 runs of what would have been an amazing win! The dedication shown by the last 4 batsmen was a lesson to those who threw their wickets away earlier.With pleny of overs remaining, Golden Grove finished at 7 for 64 in their second innings, with Liam, who was unlucky not to get a bat, taking 2 wickets.
The Under 15's batted poorly in difficult conditions, with the ball keeping low and swinging wildly. Mohammed did well with 47 n.o., but some poor shot selection and excellent catching from Golden Grove say Gepps dismissed for just 107. After losing a couple of early wickets disciplined batting by Golden Grove saw them through to 4 for 126 at stumps.On day 2 Golden Grove batted on, eventually scoring 245. Gepps Cross had to bat for most of the afternoon and made a better fist of their innings, scoring 170. Jordan, 58, Bradley, 50, and Jacob, 20, scored the majority of the runs. Luke batted very well, too, to see Jordan reach his half- century.

Junior Cricket - Round 2

The Under 9’s played away against the Eastern Dragons in a one dayer.
Against some very good bowling and fielding from the Dragons, Gepps Cross made 5 for 36. Tyson Rowe made 7 runs with Bailey Simpson and Ryleigh Travis both making 2 not out. The Dragons chased the total with confidence and finished at 2 for 85 at the end of their innings. Wicket takers were Lachlan Borg with 1 for 7 and Isaac Allard with 1 for 6 after also scoring 2 runs with the bat. A good catch and great keeping from Mathew Hollman along with much improved bowling were amongst the highlights of the day. All players made vast improvements from week one and will no doubt get better with more practice.
The Under 11's also played Eastern Dragons and went down narrowly. Adrian batted well for the Rams, while Liam took 2 for 5 and Nick 2 for 7. The Dragons won by 30 runs but our team is improving with every training session.
The Under 13's were determined to bounce back after last Sunday's loss to Walkerville and bounce back they did, with a full team at last making us more competitive.
Some tight bowling from all players restricted Modbury to 67 runs with Stefan, Nathan, Josh, Steven and Ryan picking up wickets. The fielding has improved remarkably in just one week.
Ollie, 21 n.o., Aidan, 21 n.o., (in his first game), Ethan and Steven, 19 n.o, and Ryan, 11 n.o., performed well. Gage, in his first game, played some terrific shots too. Finishing at 5 for 143, with regular retirements, will give the team great confidence and the boys should be proud of their team work and support for each other.
The Under 15's did well in their second one-day match, this time against Hope Valley.
Hope Valley lost wickets at regular intervals and didn't establish any solid partnerships. They were dismissed for 77 on an uneven pitch. Tyrone picked up 4 wickets and Ricky, 3.
Gepps Cross also had difficulty keeping their wickets intact but a partnership between Jordan, 48, and Bradley, 52, put the result beyond doubt.
Ricky, 19, and new player Jordan, 10, also contributed.
The matches were all played in great spirit and, as many of the boys are team mates at the Gepps Cross Junior Football Club while playing for opposing cricket clubs, there was plenty of friendly sledging.

Round 3 will see the commencement of the two day games, a real test of a players commitment and concentration.

Junior Cricket - Round 1

Mild and sunny weather prevailed on the first Sunday of junior cricket for the 08-09 season.
For the first time the club fielded Under 9 and Under 11 teams and both had a ball.
The Under 9's scored over 100 runs in a solid win over Modbury, while the 11's went down to Payneham by less than 10 runs.
The Under 13's were a couple of players short in their match against Walkerville and, despite an excellent 30 from debutant Ethan, managed only 56 runs. The boys were in with a chance when they had the visitors 5 for 4 after a couple of overs but the Walkies tail wagged and they got up by a couple of wickets. Josh P starred with the ball taking 5 wickets for 4 runs.
The under 13's welcomed new players Ethan, Ryan, Nathan B (1), Nathan B (2), Michael and Stefan. Next week they will be joined for Round 2 by Aidan, Gage and Justin.
Josh also featured in the Under 15's match against Modbury. After posting a very competitive total of 8 for 250, the Gepps bowlers took over and dismissed our very young opponents for just 18. Modbury shouldn't be disappointed, however, as they are all first year Under 15's while half of the Gepps team are second year 'veterans'. As mentioned above 11 year old Josh P filled in for the 15's and took 2 for 2 towards the end of the innings, giving him total figures of 7 for 6 for the day. The next time he fills in for the 15's he will be on a hattrick.
Jordan, 70+ runs, Bradley, 60+ & 4 wickets, and Jacob, 4 wickets, all performed well.

2008 NEMJFA Best and Fairest Count

On another successful night for the Gepps Cross Junior Football Club, Lasana Sesay from our Under 14's was voted the best and fairest player in the Under 14 (Red) division. A tremendous achievement as the Under 14's recorded just 1 win and a draw this season. Other Under 14's to poll well were Michael McMahon and Jacob Baker.

In the Under 13's, Andrew Tanner was runner-up in a very tight count and was just 1 vote away from winning the B & F this season. Jack Gibbs and Scott Cadenaro also polled well.

In the Under 12's, Oleg Markov finished third after being runner-up in the Under 11's last season, a terrific effort by Ollie. Jaidyn Beresford & Caleb Durham also received votes.

Stephen Tahana, Josh Pelentsov and Deryce Kartinyeri all received best-on-ground votes in the Under 11's, while Doug Finn and Peterjoel Verigan did well in the Under 15's. Nathan Quinn, Alex Guy, Hayden Heffernan and Tom Wyatt received best-on-ground votes in the Under 16's.

In addition to the best-and-fairest count, our Association team members received their medals.
We're extremely proud of JACOB MAIL - under 9's, COREY HALL - under 10's, STEPHEN TAHANA & JOSH PELENTSOV - under 11's and OLEG MARKOV & HAYDEN HARRISON - under 12's.

Our 2008 Presentation Day, held on Sunday August 31 was a great success, with hundreds of boys and girls and their families attending to receive their participation medals and the 6 major trophies for each team. Above are photos of the day.

Finals Update - 24 August 2008

The Under 11's played Broadview in the first semi-final at Payneham Oval. In fine and sunny conditions the 11's played well in the first and last quarters but failed to match Broadies in the second and third.

Scoring five behinds in the first term saw our confidence drop and Broadies kicked away after quarter time. In the final term Gepps looked the better team but the game was well and truly over.

All credit, though, to the team and coach, Tania, as they have far exceeded expectations and certainly developed their skills and team work as the season progressed. Commiserations to Ethan and Tashara who missed the match due to injury.

The Under 18's took on Seaton, a team which beat them two weeks ago, and won by 15 points to progress to the first semi-final next Sunday.

The teams which improved in 2008 relative to last season were the Under 11's, 13's and 15's. The Under 12's played 1 less game for 1 less win and the Under 14's and 16's played in the much tougher Red division. To win a single game each was a good effort, to be competitive in many was exceptional!

In 2009 we hope that our teams in the premiership grades are competitive as all will be in the White division. As we will be joined by many new players from other clubs and schools our depth will improve, but so will the expectations.

Footy Update - August 17 & Season Review

The home-and-away season came to and end in sunny and mild conditions.
The Under 8 Reds and Under 9's played on Friday night and both did extremely well. The Reds have been unbeaten this season and have scored 201 goals for, 27 against. The coach has enforced a strict rotation policy in every game, which is vital in this age group. Winning was never mentioned and many parents say they couln't get a football out of their child's hands all year, so great was their enjoyment.

The Under 9's have been improving every week and celebrated their second, and biggest, win of the season against Hectorville. This team should be proud of the way they developed this season and have an exciting future as Under 10's and beyond.

The Under 6 Blues took on Eastern Park and played a terrific game. Both teams should be proud of the spirit and skills on display, not only today but through out the season.

The Under 8 White team was terrific as usual and played really well against Golden Grove White. A fantastic season by the Whites and all the players should be proud of the way that they have developed.

The Under 8 Blue team finished on a high with a solid win over Athelstone Red. The Athelstone Under 8's are always a pleasure to play and the should be proud of their effort today. The Blue team had a brilliant season and even better things await as many will be Under 8's again in 2009.

The Under 10's have laid a solid foundation for a competitive Under 11's team. Strict rotations, giving the players experience in every position, mean the boys and girls will be ready to go when competing for premiership points and playing full oval games in 2009. Unfortunately a small minority of families would rather see wins than education and player development.

The Under 11's had a terrific time in their first season playing for a finals position. It all came down to winning today against Hope Valley and we won BIG. The kids were outstanding and the team is way, way better than the one which lost to Broadview in round one. Stephen, who has improved as a TEAM PLAYER with every game celebrated his 100th game in style. Well done to Tania Spriggs the coach!

The Under 12's went down to Hectorville by a goal today but should be proud of their efforts this year. There were no issues with this team at all. Their behaviour was excellent all season and, if there was a premiership ladder for courage and character our boys and girls would be on top. The team will welcome some new players next season as they attempt to improve as Under 13's.

The Under 13's finished their season on a high with a solid win Over TT Gully. Scott celebrated his 100th game with an 8 goal performance! Well done to all the boys who have progressed so rapidly from 1 win as Under 12's to 9 1/2 wins twelve months later. With so many new players on the way for 2009 the future looks very, very bright indeed.

The Under 14's were promoted to the Red division this season after winning the 2007 premiership. It's tough at the top! The main difference between the White & Red divisions is the greater depth of quality players and quarter-by-quarter consistency. We have the players but they were not always switched on for 4 quarters. A win, a draw and a couple of very narrow losses will see them in the White division as Under 15's in 2009. No-one can doubt their commitment in 2008 and the boys should be proud to have played, and challenged, the best.

The Under 15's won 5 games this season, four by 15 or more goals and twice held the opposition goal-less. The boys developed rapidly and challenged all the top teams this season. A poor quarter here and there saw them drop winnable games but a couple of new key players will see them challenge for a finals spot in 2009.

The Under 16's were minor premiers in 2005 and faced a steep learning curve this year in the Under 16 Red division. With one win for the season the boys will have to re-group in 2009 in either Under 17's, 18's or seniors. There is tremendous individual talent in this team and the players can be proud of their commitment when they were up against it all season.

The Under 18's finished 5th and will contest the finals next week. Stripped of three wins due to a very minor clerical error, the boys should have an impact in the finals. Nearly all of the boys played in the Under 16's premiership in 2007 and are playing against many boys who are a year older. Well done to Dale and the boys in the Under 18's!

All-in-all a record breaking year for the Rams. A record number of players, teams, goals, wins and goal kickers. For the first time this decade a team went through the season unbeaten and the future looks to be very bright indeed.

Under 8's great season

Our tremendous record of developing juniors has continued in 2008. The three Under 8 teams have all been competitive, with the Blue and White teams having many first year Under 8's, improving with every game and displaying great team work and skills.

The Red team's season concluded with a night game away against Golden Grove Gold and, after a lethargic first quarter, the boys continued to show the excellent team-work, courage and skills that they have developed this season. Their 12th of 13 goals in this match was their 200th for the season, but their defensive efforts cannot be ignored as they have conceded just 27. The strict rotation policy has worked very well as as the children in all three teams have gained experience in every position.

All-in-all an excellent season by all our Under 8 teams. The future looks bright as the children seem to welcome the challenge of further developing their skills AND the introduction of tackling for those eligible for Under 9's in 2009.

Under Six kicks 50 goals and August 10th 2008 Update

On a freeeeeeeeeeeeezing, but fine, Friday night both of our Under 6 teams headed to TT Gully for the Under 6 carnival. The Blue team played Fitzroy and played terrific team footy. Joel kicked another 6 from 14. Some of the 5 and 6 year olds in both teams have amazing ability and courage.
The Red team played TT Gully black and, despite having only 9 players available, played with great spirit. Ryley kicked 2 goals for the Red team to total 50 for 2008 with one round to go.

In 2005 Caleb Travis kicked 58 for the Under 6's.

WELL DONE TO ALL PLAYERS IN BOTH TEAMS!

The Under 8 Red team had a tough challenge, taking on another excellent team from Hope Valley. In a virtual repeat of last week's game, the Reds held on to win by 5 points. Last week's opponent from Hope Valley, their Red team, played our White team and the boys did well to, not only score, but make Valley's work very hard for their goals. The Blue team travelled out to Eastern Park and were very competitive against a well drilled team.

The Under 9's started really well against Athelstone but the visitors experience began to tell and the final margin was not a true indication of how well the boys and girl played. Congratulations to Cameron for kicking his first goal!

The Under 10's played TT Gully, probably the best team in the grade. Although the final margin was pretty big there's no questioning our team's endevour. Many teams have had 20+ goals scored against them by this TT Gully team.

The Under 11's headed to Gaza and scored a 43 point win in the mud. It was a very physical game but all to no avail as our boys and girl kept their heads and concentrated on getting the ball, despite the provocation.

The Under 12's did a lot better against Athelstone than in their previous encounter. Both teams are short of numbers but the hosts are extremely well-drilled and skillful and will be very competitive in the Under 13 Red division in 2009. Thanks to Brayden, Corey, Joseph and Dakota from the Under 10's for helping out once again.

The Under 13's played Broadview and, with several of our key players away in Melbourne, struggled to score. Our team's 21 point loss was their second biggest for the season but was respectable given the circumstances.

The Under 14's led TT Gully by 5 points with 30 seconds remaining but the visitors marked 30 metres out and scored a quality goal, given the heavy ball, and got up by one point. A good effort by Gepps Cross however and the players should be proud of their commitment.

For the second week in a row the Under 15's kept the opposition goal-less. Ingle Farm were very undermanned and all credit for the younger players who filled in for them. Gepps Cross had plenty of run, despite the mud, and their disposal was excellent in the conditions.

The Under 16's let another one slip after being in a winning posititon at 3/4 time. Payneham kicked 5 goals to one in the final term to get up by 13 points. Our boys should be proud of their effort today, however.

The Under 18's innacuracy const them a win over Seaton away and they went down by 19 points. They can't be dislodged from a finals berth, though.

Footy Update August 3 2008

On Friday night the first of August the Under 16's headed to Golden Grove and didn't have a great game. As usual the boys were more competitive than the final score indicated but were much smaller and less physical than their opponents. It's been a steep learning curve for the 16's this season but they will benefit from the experience as 17's, 18's or, maybe, seniors in 2009. Thanks to Jake from the Under 14's for helping out.

Sunday's weather was the best for some weeks. The Under 6 Blue team took on the much bigger boys from Gaza and had a great time as always. They have great courage, not to mention skill, for 5 and 6 year olds and made Gaza fight all the way for their narrow win.

The Under 6 Red team had a similar experience away at Golden Grove. The kids are improving every week and LIVE for footy!

Both teams will provide some sensational Under 8's in 2009.

And, speaking of the Under 8's, the Red team played in a fantastic contest against Hope Valley Red. Hope Valley started well and led by a couple of goals at 3/4 time. The Rams rallied in the final quarter and Aaron H kicked with winning goal after the final siren as the team recorded a five point win. The Under 8 White team tried hard against Ingle Farm and played well early but our rotations, which are essential in this age-group, eventually saw Ingle Farm get on top and kick away. The Under 8 Blue's played Para Hills and played really well to win in a solid team effort.

The Under 9's took the game up to Fitzroy and only just missed out on singing the Club victory song again. As many of the team are new to footy it's taken many games for them to start to get a 'feel' for the game and the signs are positive for future seasons.

The Under 10's traveled to Ingle Farm and, while competitive, were outclassed. The boys arn't concerned at all about their results this season and are keen to play for premiership points, and on a full oval, next season.

The 11's had a bye today as they prepare for Gaza, then Hope Valley and, with a bit of luck, the finals.

The 12's were seriously undermanned in their match away at TT Gully, but with the help of two Under 11's and three Under 10's, managed to stay in the game right until the end. The Gullies, however, ran out winners by a solitary goal.

The Under 13's seemed fairly lethargic early in their game against Ingle Farm as many players are carrying injuries. They didn't play with much flair but ran away to a comfortable win. The improvement in many of the boys this season has been amazing, particularly Zach E, Zach W and Jordan G.

The Under 14's took the game right up to Walkerville in the first half but a great third term by the hosts saw them establish a handy lead. Our boys fought back in the final term but the margin was just too great.

The Under 15's got off to a slow start against Tea Tree Gully, (slow starts being an unfortunate trait of most of our teams), but were superb after 1/4 time, keeping the visitor goalless for the game and running out 112 point winners.

The Under 18's match V top-of-the-ladder Port District was a fantastic, see-sawing, contest with the Rams running out winners by 3 goals. Port didn't do themselves any favours by having two players sent off and reported in the final quarter. Despite a bit of 'push and shove' both teams should be proud of their commitment and desperation. Nathan Q from the Under 16's got a run and was impressive.

At last!!! After weeks on dismal, freezing weather, sunshine prevailed for most of the day.

Both Under 6 teams played terrific games today with the children scoring comfortable wins. Ryley kicked another 6 for the Red team as he heads rapidly towards 50-plus for the season, but it was a great team performance. The Blues travelled to Golden Grove and kicked another 100+ point score. Cameron, Joel and Corey kicked 12 goals between them, but every player contributed.

All three Under 8 teams got to sing the Ram's victory song today. The Under 8 Blues travelled to Athelstone and took on their Red team. 7 little Rams kicked goals in a 14 point win. The White team hosted Modbury Brown and, although plagued by inaccurate kicking for goal again, scored a solid win. The Red team hosted Ingle Farm Green and the boys looked a little lethargic in recording their 12th straight win, this time by 40 points.

Great news for the 2008 Under 9's. After coming so close in a couple of games the boys and girls finally got over the line, by 3 points in an excellent game against Hectorville. Newcomer Dylan looked excellent and Jacob is finally regaining some confidence after recovering from his broken collar bone. Well done to the whole team!

The Under 10's hosted Pooraka in a terrific contest but we fell just 3 points short. The boys and girls are improving every week and are building a solid foundation for their first foray into the premiership grades next year as Under 11's.

While Pooraka's 10's visited Gepps Cross our 11's headed to Pooraka and, but for very inaccurate kicking - 15 goals 21 behinds, could have won by more than the final 110 point margin. Josh kicked 6 and Steven 4 in a dominant performance.

The 12's hosted Modbury and got up by 20 points in another close contest. With the help of Corey, Joseph and Dakota from the Under 10's, as the 12's don't have great depth, the boys and girl held on to score 5-11 to 3-4. Modbury, as always, were a pleasure to play and should be proud of their effort today.

Well, the Under 13's game away at Modbury must have been very, very weird. The final score - Modbury 1 goal 7, Gepps Cross 1 goal 5! In near perfect conditions. Modbury are second on the ladder while Gepps was fifth and we really needed to get the points today. The footy gods have definitely NOT blessed the 2008 Under 13's!

The Under 14's, after a couple of recent poor results, were in action against one of the top teams, Salisbury West. In a dramatic game of footy, played with great spirit, the scores were tied, 8-10 to 9-4. Michael played well as usual but it was a good team effort against a formidable opponent.

The Under 15's visited Salisbury West and went down by 7 goals. The boys played well, though and are keen to finish the season with 3 more wins. It was a pleasure to have more than 18 players available for a match as the indigenous players have returned from the Western Desert after the holidays.

The Under 16's were no match for Eastern Park, going down by 8 goals, but the team is improving and will benefit from playing against the much tougher opposition in the top division.

The Under 18's took on Broadview at St Pauls College and recorded a predictable 80 point win.

Let's hope for more sunshine next Sunday when the highlights will be the Under 15's match V TT Gully at Gepps and the 14's V Walkerville away. The main attraction, though, will be the Under 8 Reds game against Hope Valley Red away. IF our 8's can get over the very talented Valley team then it's likely they will go through the season unbeaten.

Footy Update - Friday 18 & Sunday 20 July 2008

Despite the wintery forecast the conditions at Modbury Oval for Friday night's match between our Under 8 Whites and Modbury Gold were quite good. In a terrific game Modbury prevailed and were overjoyed at getting their first win of the season. Well done as they have some very talented players. Our team played a terrific first half but seemed to lose concentration in the second. It's always a pleasure to play the Modbury Hawks, regardless of the results.

On Sunday the Under 6 Red team travelled to Eastern Park and went down in a good contest. 11 of the Under 6's turned up and good on them in the wet, windy and wild conditions!

On the other hand the Under 6 Blue team stayed at home and scored lots of goals, 16 in fact. As we were a player or two short TT Gully lent us a player and he kicked 4 of our 16 goals. Well done.

The Under 8 Red team headed to Modbury to take on the Hawks' Brown team. In a much closer contest than some recent games the Reds scored a comfortable win, with Kyle kicking 4 goals.

The Under 8 Blues hosted TT Gully Red and, in a terrific game of footy given the conditions, just fell short. One of our players kicked a goal for the opposition. Well done Matthew.

Only 12 Under 9's turned up at Hope Valley but we welcomed back Jacob after missing most of the season due to a broken collar bone. The team gets it's share of the ball but can't score as they are very inexperienced.

A similar story at Golden Grove, with the Under 10's having a real go but being unable to score too many goals. Well done to Adrian for scoring his first goal since returning to the Rams after spending two years in England!

Heartbreak for the Under 11's who hosted Broadview. In a fantastic game, given the cold, wet and windy conditions, the 11's fell 3 points short of a remarkable win. The final term belonged to Gepps but, despite dominating and keeping the ball in our forward lines, we just couldn't kick the winner. They are still a chance to play in the finals, despite the loss.

The Under 12's had yet another bye.

Top team Golden Grove travelled to Gepps for their Under 13's match. Our 13's got their revenge for the narrow loss back on Anzac Day and, in a low scoring contest, held on by one goal. Well done to Zach E for scoring his first ever goal for the Rams. And what a big game to do it in!

The 14's, 15's and 16's, all VERY undermanned, copped big losses but, with the return of some key players from the Western Desert next weekend, will make an impact in the final four matches.

The Under 18's had to withstand a great challenge from Woodville South, a very underrated team, and held on to win narrowly by 9 points.

Next Sunday will hopefully see better weather and some more respectable scores.

While the weather was forecast to be cold and wet, it turned out to be cool but hardly a drop of rain fell on our oval, although a couple of away games received a shower or two.

Our Under 6 teams both got to sing the club song in victory today, with the kids all contributing, as usual, to the teams success. Ryley Nisbet stayed at the top of the club's goal scoring with 5 for the Red team, taking him to a total of 37 for the season so far.

The Under 8 White and Blue teams both had tough assignments, the White's taking on Walkerville and the Blues, Payneham. Both teams played really well, though, and should be proud of their competitiveness and enjoyment. The Under 8 Red team hosted Modbury Gold and, in a good team effort, shared the ball and the goals between the majority of players.

The Under 9's battled hard against Athelstone and, with the welcome return of Raymond, showed they are improving.

The Under 10's also scored goals against Eastern Park and they too are improving, with the many new players gaining confidence and skills to provide a solid foundation for Under 11's footy next year.

Speaking of which, the Under 11's kept their finals hopes alive with a solid win over Tea Tree Gully White. After a tight first half the Rams lifted in the second and played as well as they can to score plenty of goals in the final term.

The 12's headed to Para Hills, undermanned as always, and were no match for the hosts. The boys got their share of the ball but the greater size of our opponents saw Hills score a comfortable win.

The 13's led by four or five goals away at Eastern Park but couldn't maintain their intensity for four quarters and paid the price, a 3 point loss.

The 14's were no match for Hope Valley away and suffered their worst loss of the season. Thanks to Ollie from the Under 12's for helping out as the team was a few players short.

The same for the 15's who only had 16 players on the field against Ingle Farm Green, one of the top teams in the division. Down by only 5 points at 1/2 time the boys just ran out of legs and went down by 8 goals.

The 16's are improving and, despite losing to Athelstone by 10 goals, performed much better than in their previous encounter.

The Under 18's went down to Henley by 10 points in a tough game. The team was fighting back in the final term when two injuries, one to each team, saw valuable minutes tick away and the siren went with only about 10 minutes actual play possible in the last quarter.

The Under 8's visit North Adelaide and Footy Update for Sunday, June 29

On Thursday evening 30 of our 50 Under 8's visited Prospect Oval to attend North Adelaide's senior training. The Roosters were fantastic, giving the children a pie or pasty, and they had the honor of coach, Andrew Jarman, conducting a guided tour of the club. The kids were thrilled to meet several AFL listed players, including Nick Gill and Damon White.

The next night the Under 8 White team headed to Pooraka to play their Under 8's. It was a terrific game and Pooraka scored a narrow win, 4-3-27 to 2-9-21. Inaccurate kicking once again! The Pooraka & Rams players, families and coaching staff were fantastic.

Sunday was overcast, with rain threatening, but barely a drop fell.

The Under 6 Red team headed to Gaza to play their BIG Under 6 team and struggled against the much bigger boys of the opposition. A few children went to the wrong venue, so we were undermanned. The kids still had fun, though.

The Under 6 Blue team hosted Ingle Farm and played very well to kick 7 goals 10 behinds.

The Under 8 Blues welcomed TT Gully Blue and just fell short in a terrific game of football. The kids improved as the game wore on.

The Under 8 Red team headed to Walkerville to play their Blue team and won by 11 goals in a one sided match. One or two of the opposition officials didn't react well to the result.

The improving Under 9's scored a couple of goals against Broadview and held them to 7 goals. The team work is improving every week and the boys and girls are beginning to understand what it's all about.

The Under 10's fell 8 points short in their match against Broadview, but played well enough to put the hosts under pressure.

The Under 11's visited top-of-the-ladder Golden Grove and found scoring opportunities very scarce. The Kookuburras are a quality team and our kids will regroup for next weekend's match against TT Gully. We still have an opportunity to play in the finals despite today's loss.

A similar story for the Under 12's who took on Pooraka. Pooraka are a quality team and our boys struggled to have any impact at all. The 12's must win at least 4 more games to play finals.

The 13's rested a few players for large periods of today's match against Hope Valley. The visitors were desperate but our centre clearances, particularly in the second half, led to many goal scoring opportunities. Jack kicked 7 and all of the team contributed.

The Under 14's were just not quite switched on today and were well beaten by Broadview. We appreciated the contribution of the Under 13's who gave us some flexibility and depth.

The Under 15's travelled to Modbury, and one bad quarter saw them blown away. Thanks to the four Under 13's who rushed to Modbury to play, as so many of the regular Under 15's are away.

The Under 16's, winless until today, got up by two points in a thriller against Broadies. The game ebbed and flowed all day, a six point second quarter nearly sealing our fate, but the boys, minus several quality indiginous players, showed real spirit to hang on for a confidence building win.

The Under 18's had the bye.

Footy Update - 22 June 2008

It was a frustrating weekend, the gloomy skies reflecting the results.
The Under 8 Blue and Red teams had terrific games, the 13's drew and the 18's beat top-of-the ladder, North Haven.
The weekend started badly when poor communication saw the Under 6 Blue team miss their Friday night game against Modbury. We thought it was a Sunday game!
The Under 6 Red team had a predictably tough game against Payneham but tried hard and had fun and that's what Under 6 footy is all about.
The Under 8 White team also took on Payneham and played really, really well. They welcomed a new player, Dylan.
The Under 8 Blue team had a Friday night game against TT Gully and scored a narrow win in what was a great game of footy. The Under 8 Red team played Pooraka. The Red's 3rd of 16 goals was their 100th for the season and, at the half way mark, they have totaled 113 goals for, just 10 against!
The Under 9's are improving. A narrow loss to Modbury showed their defence is beginning to work together. With so many new players it's a time for learning, and not worrying about winning.
After a terrific game against TT Gully in the last round, the Under 10's were no match for Athelstone. The visitors were very disciplined and held their positions well.
The Under 11's had a bye, which is frustrating after a run of big wins recently, not a great preparation for next Sunday's match against Golden Grove.
The Under 12's were no match for Payneham, although Mathew is proving to be an asset at full-forward. James played his 50th game.

Despite missing a couple of key players the under 13's drew with Para hills. Nick kicked 4 goals for the Rams, but inaccurate kicking cost the team a comfortable win. With Gepps having most of the play and missing 7 shots at goal from 10 metres out, Para hills were very lucky to get away with a draw in the dying seconds. We were all on the edge of our seats. Unfortunately some 'disagreements' between the opposing coach and some of his own Hills families spoilt what was a good game!

The 14's suffered yet another heart-breaking loss, this time to Payneham by 4 points. They will rue some inaccurate kicking for goal, too.
Eight points was the final margin in the Under 15's match against Broadview. Gepps really didn't start playing like they can till the second half and, despite dominating, couldn't bridge the gap.

The 16's headed to TT Gully and suffered another big loss, although we can take some positives away from the game. Scoring 7 goals is one of their better efforts this season.

The Under 18's took on North Haven in a must-win match, after being stripped of match points and percentage from three wins earlier in the season. We won by 10 points but 30 or 40 points would have been a better indication of our dominance. Inaccurate kicking for goal plagues this club!
Let's hope all our teams can be on target next weekend!

Footy Update - 13th & 15th June

The Under 10's headed to TT Gully on a cold and wet Friday night to play their Red team. In a very entertaining match the home team scored a 14 point win.

Both Under 6's teams played at home and had a ball. We welcomed a new player to the Red team, Matthew Brown.

The Under 8 Blue team took on the tough Walkerville White team and couldn't match the visitors for size. Our defense worked overtime and did well but scoring opportunities were limited. So too for the Under 8 White team who made the long trip to TT Gully to play their Black team. The Under 8 Reds took on Payneham at Payneham and won well, with the goals shared amongst the team.

The Under 9's are a developing team and were very undermanned against Golden Grove but fought hard and kept the opposition to less than 10 goals.

The Under 11's played at home against Para Hills. It was 3rd, Hills, versus 4th. Para Hills have an excellent defense but were tested today by our run and good team play and Gepps prevailed by 2 goals. Nathan Brice played is 100th game for the Rams.

The Under 12's had a rare home game and took on Golden Grove. The first 3 quarters were very tight and Gepps held a 1 goal lead at 3/4 time. The final quarter belonged to the Rams however and we scored 5 goals 2 to zero to run out comfortable winners. Thanks to the Under 10's, Corey, Dakota and Brayden, who showed real class and guts when required.

The Under 13's took on Payneham and, after having the game won at 1/2 time, the coach experimented with different players in various positions and has uncovered some real talent. We have a new 'secret weapon' who has all the attributes required to succeed.

The Under 14's were shattered when, after leading all day at Salisbury North, a late goal to the home team gave them a 2 point win. Kicking 6 behinds in the 3rd quarter didn't help our cause.

The Under 15's took on Ingle Farm White away and scored a comfortable win. Dylan, with 8 goals, and James with 7, dominated the scoring. A great team effort all round. Congratulations to Angus Kelly who celebrated his 150th game with a 130 point win.

The Under 16's improved in their match against Payneham but the bigger bodies and better team play of the visitors prevailed. Ruckman, Lachlan Barratt, played his 50th game for the Rams.

The Under 18's had no problems accounting for Flinders Park away.

It may have been the first day of Winter, but the weather was fine, sunny and warm for today's games.
Both Under 6 teams played away, about as far away as you can get - in fact, with the Red team heading to TT Gully and having a great game there, and the Blue team going to Golden Grove and having a wonderful time, as always. Ryley Nisbet kicked 8 for the Red team to total 28 goals after 7 rounds.

None of our Under 8 teams lost. The Whites played with desperation to get a draw against TT Gully Yellow, the Blues scored a big win away at Modbury and the Reds had to fight hard to keep their unbeaten record intact in their game against TT Gully Black.

The Under 9's were no match for Ingle Farm BUT they welcomed some new players at last, with Blake, Jayden and Jared all doing well.

The Under 10's were hopeful of getting a win against Hectorville but just couldn't counter the greater desperation and run of their opponents.

The Under 11's headed to Modbury and scored another 10 goal win with Deryce, Stephen and Josh outstanding in what was a terrific team effort. Bigger challenges lie ahead. however.

The Under 12's were seriously undemanned for their match against Broadview away. Only 16 regular 12's and 1 Under 10 turned up and, when you are playing a quality team like Broadies, you need depth. Aaron was outstanding in his second game this season. After an ordinary first half the boys matched Broadies in the second. Slow starts seem to plague the Under 12's.

The Under 13's scored a predictable win over TT Gully, but they would admit they could have played a lot better. It's going to take a big lift in effort to get over the 2 or 3 teams above them.

The Under 14's were hopeful of getting a win over Athelstone but were outrun, out-muscled and generally outplayed. The boys should be disappointed with their effort today. Michael was outstanding again, as was Lasana, but they lacked support.

The Under 15's scored their second win of the season, by about 24 goals over TT Gully. after losing to top teams, Golden Grove and Salisbury West by just a couple of goals, the boys finally put it all together. Glen kicked 8 in a solid performance from the whole team.

The Under 16's were absolutely no match for Golden Grove and failed to celebrate Lee's 150th game with even a solitary goal. They will welcome this week's break.

The Under 18's scored a very, very impressive win over Seaton. Just percentage separated these teams before today. Now it's a game plus a much bigger percentage. The boys are destined for the finals.

All teams have a bye next week, the 8th, and then we're back into action on Friday the 13th with the Under 10's playing TT Gully.

On a chilly Friday night the Under 8 Red team headed to Tea Tree Gully to play Gullies Yellow team. The Gullies' have some terrific players in their team but our better all-round performance saw the boys score a comfortable win. The Reds have scored 75 goals in their first 5 games this season and conceded just 4. They show tremendous football maturity for 7 and 8 year olds. Thomas Robinson and Kyle Polkinghorne both scored goals to celebrate their 50th games for Gepps Cross.

Sunday turned out to be sunny and mild, great footy conditions. Our Under 6's teams had the rare treat of both playing at home. The boys and girls from the Red and Blue teams having a great time as always. Ryley Nisbet, a 'veteran' Under 6, now heads the Ram's goal kicking, with 20 in his 5 games. We are happy to welcome a new girl to the Under 6's - Devin-Cha.

The developing Under 8 Blue and Red teams tried hard against Modbury and Athelstone respectively and, despite not singing the Club song in victory, are learning and improving all the time. We welcomed a new Under 8, Tyler.

The Under 9's headed to Modbury, boosted by some new players but missing Jacob, who injured a shoulder during the week. Get well soon!

The Under 10's fought hard against Payneham. Their team game is developing, as evidenced by their multiple goal kickers this week.

The Under 11's played a terrific team game against TT Gully, with many goal scorers. Joel kicked his first goals for the season, 4, in a 15 goal win. Got to win the close ones now, boys and girls!

The Under 12's had a bye.

The Under 13's seemed to be intimidated by the THOUGHT of playing Broadview and were probably beaten before the ball was even bounced to start the game. A solid final quarter made their performance seem a little better than it really was over the whole game. Many players went missing for the first 3/4 of the game. We welcomed a new player, Drew. Congratulations to Aiden Shearer for his 50th game!

The Under 14's are developing a pattern, play brilliantly for a quarter and then have snooze. In a winnable game against TT Gully they did exactly that! Maybe they still feel they don't deserve to be playing in the top division - WRONG!

The Under 15's game against Salisbury West was a fantastic contest. The visitors held the edge in the second half after some poor kicking for goal by the Rams in the first. Next week WILL be a different story.

The Under 16's played their best game yet in the top division. They were always in the game but just couldn't string a sequence of goals together. The return of Alex was a bonus.

The Under 18's made it four-in-a-row after a hard-fought win over Port District Away.

On a very cold Friday evening the Under 8 Blue team headed to Ingle Farm for a match against their White team. Despite constant rain all day, not a drop fell during the match. The deluge resumed just after the final siren! The boys and girl played very well and the freezing temperatures didn't seem to worry them. The Ingle Farm boys were great sports and tried very hard but our bigger and faster players kept up a constant attack, with Shyanne, 'Macca' and Brayden all dominating. It's daunting to think that most of this team will be Under 8's again in 2009.

The Association Under 9 to Under 12 teams played their Central District rivals at Elizabeth Oval today. The following Gepps Cross players all did well, with Stephen Tahana outstanding.

The Under 6 Red and Blue teams had a good day out with both playing very well. These young boys and girls are starting to get a feel for the game. Ryley Nisbet kicked 6 for the Reds while Joel Holloway did the same for the Blues.

After Friday night's terrific performance by the Under 8 Blue team against Ingle Farm, the Reds scored another win this morning, against Athelstone Blue. Kyle, Thomas and Riley kicking 13 of 17 goals between them. And a terrific debut win by the White team! The kids fought hard against Athelstone White and scored a narrow win. They finally got to sing the Club song!

The Under 9's were very competitive against Payneham, a far more experienced team. They certainly got their share of the ball but too often the defence was caught napping and the Payneham forwards were left unmarked.

The Under 10's were unkucky in their match against Para Hills. Poor kicking for goal and the loss of Corey at 1/2 time to the Association team counted against us. Thomas was outstanding at full-back, Brayden tried hard in the ruck and, all in all, it was a solid team performance.

The Under 18's were expected to beat Broadview and they got the points in a tough encounter. We were reduced to 15 players for most of the final quarter after 3 were sent off due to an altercation. The boys rallied, though, and held on for a 3 goal win.

The season is slowly, but surely, taking shape after the fifth round of football for the Under 11's to 18's and the third round for the 6's to 10's.

In beautiful Autumn sunshine both our Under 6's teams had terrific wins, the Reds at home and the Blues up the highway at Eastern Park. Ryley Nisbet and Flynn Robertson kicked 4 each for the Red team while Joshua Plane, Cameron Knighton and Cooper Roe shared the goals for the Blues.

The Under 8 Red team headed to Athelstone and scored plenty of goals, again. 45 goals to 3 in their three games so far is a good effort by the second year Under 8's. Our Under 8 White team played with great spirit against a much bigger Broadview team, while the Blue team were impressive against Hope Valley, scoring their second win.

The Under 9's played TT Gully on Friday evening and, while competitive, have to learn to maintain their positions. They are improving every week and are sure to sing the Club song soon.

Walkerville's Under 10's headed to Gepps Cross for their match and were very impressive. A very tall and athletic team, the Cats were way too good but our 10's will improve as the rotations continue.

The Under 11's were very unlucky in their away match against Hope Valley. Down to 17 players in the final quarter, the Under 11 Rams had a late kick for goal to win the game, but missed. A very competitive team in the making, though.

The Under 12's headed to Hectorville, to face a real test after last week's drubbing by Athelstone. Hoping to make it 4 wins from 5 games, the 12's were too good for the improving Hounds, with Ollie kicking 5 goals to total 15 after 5 games. Corey Hall from the Under 10's more than 'made up the numbers', kicking 2 goals.

Innacurate kicking for goal by the Under 13's made the going tough in the first half against Ingle Farm. The boys found their rhythm and run in the second half, though, and eventually cruised to an 11 goal win.

The best news of the day came from the Under 14's, who were promoted to the Red division after winning the Under 13 premiership in 2007. Beating Walkerville by 7 points, it would have been 7 goals but for poor kicking for goal, will give the team a huge confidence boost, knowing they deserve to be in the top division.

A poor final quarter against Golden Grove saw the 15's go down by 19 points. They are so competitive at times but tend to lose concentration and let themselves down. Better things lie ahead, though. Glen Brown, James Hamilton and Shaymus Saxby are proving to be terrific running forwards.

The Under 16's hosted TT Gully Black and, while they are competitive, are really strugging to counter the greater size, strength and fitness of their top division opponents.

The Under 18's made it two big wins in a row by accounting for Woodville South by 56 points.

A bye for the premiership grades next Sunday with the 6's to 10's in action in the morning. We wish our many players in the Association representative teams all the best for next weekend's matches against the Central Districts Junior Football League!

Football Update 4 May 2008

Mild and sunny conditions prevailed for round 4, (round 2 for the younger grades), and we had the usual mixed results. Both Under 6's teams are improving every week as more and more players join and the boys and girls had a ball yesterday in the sunshine. With a bit of luck they may have got to sing the Club victory song at last, but that can wait for another day.

Two of our three Under 8 teams scored big wins, with the third going down by a couple of points. The Reds continue their impressive form, 30 goals to 3 in the first two games. Craig, the coach, is doing everything to make the games more competitive but, despite the forwards playing as defenders and visa versa the goal rampage continues. The Blues scored a six goal win while the Whites are on track to sing the Club song soon!

The Under 9's were very competitive in their second outing. Virtually a brand new team, coach Dean is doing a fantastic job of teaching the basics and there is already some outstanding talent emerging.

We have a huge squad of Under 10's and it's proving to be a headache for the coach as he attempts to rotate his players and give everyone a fair go each week. The children are learning to play in all positions and, although this may cost them games, it will certainly benefit them greatly in the future as they will be more complete players.

The Under 11's played their 'home match' against Gaza at Gaza, due to the unavailability of an alternative. We're fast running out of space at the Rams. Despite handing Gaza the home ground advantage the 11's played their best match yet, scoring an 11 goal win.

On the other hand, the Under 12's, after three wins from as many games, were taught a lesson in football by Athelstone at Torrens Valley. There are no excuses. While we were short of players, so was Athelstone and they showed why they are unlikely to lose this season. Next week's match away at Hectorville will be another tough one. We welcomed two new players, Ashleigh and Xena, and both played well in difficult circumstances.

The Under 13's are improving every week and that was evident in a three goal win over the previously unbeaten Modbury Hawks. The boys are beginning to play to a plan and apply more pressure on their opponents. Eric, at full back, was sensational while newcomer, Mitchell, is beginning to shine

The Under 14's headed to Salisbury West and kicked the first two goals of the game. And that was the only real highlight for the Rams. The boys are becoming more competitive but there's a big gap between the teams promoted from the lower division and those in the top division.

Five minutes of poor defensive footy in the third term, with only 17 players, hurt the Under 15's chances of getting the points against Ingle Farm. Despite playing a much more skilfull style of footy than last season, our players are still developing and can only improve as the season progresses.

Despite a poor final score, the Under 16's probably played their best game so far this season. Our lack of height and bulk is a serious disadvanatge in the top division. But there's no doubt our Under 16's and 14's will be better players for the experience of competing against the best each week.

Football Update - 27 April 2008

The weather was forecast to be cold and wet but the first round featuring all 13 teams for 2008 was mainly played in cool but sunny conditions.

The Under 6 Red and Blue teams debuted and, despite many children being away on holiday, both had a wonderful time. This season we have very few second year Under 6's, with most of the children being just 5 or 6, and they will take time to adjust to footy. They are the stars of the future. We welcomed 2 new coaches - Glenn, Under 6 Red - and Gary, Under 6 Blue.

The 3 Under 8 teams were in action for the first time, with all teams doing well. The 'experienced' Red team scored a huge win while the Blues and Whites were very competitive and will do well. We welcome Malcolm to the Rams coaching ranks, in charge of the White Under 8's.

The Under 9's, the majority of whom are new, headed to Walkerville, always a tough opponent, and weren't disgraced. All of the children played with great heart, and no lack of skill. Welcome to new coach, Dean!

The Under 10's played away to Modbury and struggled against a bigger and more committed team. Unlike a few other clubs we WILL rotate our players to give them experience in all positions.

Lack of discipline cost the Under 11's a win against Ingle Farm away. AWAY AGAIN! 13 teams, and only 4 at home! Ridiculous.

The Under 12's made it three from three with a hard fought win over Tea Tree Gully. Kicking 1 goal 6 in the second quarter didn't help, but the boys fought hard for a one goal win. We welcomed a new player, Zachary.

On Friday night the Under 13's went to Harper's Field to play Golden Grove. The team improved as the match progressed and were definately the better team in the second half. But the damage had been done early and they lost by 10 points. Welcome to new boy, Mitchell!

The 14's are struggling in the Red Division and, while competitive at times, find it difficult to match the size, skill and fitness of the top teams. Golden Grove were just too good.

The 15's faced top team, Modbury and did well in the second and third quarters. The first and final terms belonged to the visitors, however, and the Hawks ran out easy winners.

The 16's were hopefull of finally getting a win when they headed to Cane Reserve to play Broadview. It was not to be, however, and Broadies scored a comfortable win.

Round 2 Update

Round 2 got under way in overcast conditions on Sunday April 13th with the Under 8's and Under 6's playing Modbury and Ingle Farm respectively. The kids had a wonderful time and will be keen to play again when the real season commences on the 27th.
In the premiership grades the Under 11's hosted Pooraka and bounced back from last Sunday's loss with a thumping win. Tashara Ware played her 50th game and celebrated the occasion with a goal and a 119 point victory.
The Under 12's headed to Modbury and, as usual, played with real passion and desperation against their taller and more athletic opponents. Zane and Cody, making their 2008 debuts, both had great games in a hard-fought win.
The Under 13's would be dissapointed with their effort against Eastern Park. Perhaps last Sunday's easy win over Hope Valley gave the boys too much confidence.Inaccurate kicking for goal didn't help, either.
The Under 14's played the 2007 Grand Finalist, Hope Valley, and the gap between the White division and the Red was clearly apparent as the boys struggled all day.
The 15's took on Broadview away and were a shadow of last week's team which beat Ingle Farm. They were competitive and more wins will come.
The Under 16's hosted last year's premier, Tea Tree Gully, and, despite playing better than last Sunday, just couldn't penetrate a solid Gully defensive wall.
Oh well, we have a week off and all 13 teams are in action for the first time this season.

The season finally got under way on April 6th in beautiful conditions.
The Under 11's hit the unfamiliar turn of Charles Cane reserve to play Broadview. The boys and girls were competitive but Broadies had a big third term and got away from us.
The Under 12's were looking down the barrel at 3/4 time against Eastern Park. The visitors seemed to have an edge in desperation. Gepps fought back in the final quarter to level the scores with a minute to go. Ollie hit the post to give us the lead and then marked from the kick-out and scored a goal - one of 6. New players, Corey and Caleb, were impressive.
The Under 13's were huge winners over Hope Valley away. 24 goals to 2 behinds, with 13 individual goal scorers indicates a solid team effort. The boys will gain a lot of confidence from the big win after such a dismal 2007.
The Under 14's, promoted to the Red division after last year's premiership, struggled in the first half against Broadview away. They found their feet in the second half but will have to adjust quickly to the greater pressure and pace of the top division.
The Under 15's, with a new coach an a few new players, were 7 goals down at 3/4 time against Ingle Farm but a HUGE 9 goal to 1 behind last quarter saw the boys get up by 18 points. A magnificent performance.
The Under 16's have lots of work to do to be competitive in the Red division. The much stronger bodies and greater skill of Payneham set a bench mark for our team. Greater fitness and a more physical approach will be needed to be a success in this company.

The Under 13's were disappointed that the heat prevented any play in the grand final against Golden Grove but were pleased that they won the Premiership, due to them finishing on top of the ladder. The outright win against Hope Valley early in the season gave them the extra point they needed to finish on top.
The boys were presented with Association medals during a 20-20 scratch match, after which they headed for the pool.
The boys received club premiership medals at a function this evening.
Looking forward to the 08-09 season, many of the boys will be Under 13's again. In fact many have two or three seasons left as Under 13's.
The most encouraging aspect of the season was the way the boys quickly learned the skills of the game. Our leading wicket taker, Josh P., is only 10 years old and when he, Stephen, Ollie, Jatin, Dakota and Bradley return for another season of Under 13's they should improve even more.
Jacob did an outstanding job as captain, Mohammed performed well with bat and ball. Ben and Josh A, Scott and Chris will be important players in Adelaide Turf Cricket's Under 15's next season.
Despite losing only once this season, the boys are a little disappointed that they didn't equal last season's highest score of 6/267 when they played in the Para Districts competition.

Due to extreme temperatures there was no play today in the Under 13 and Under 17 grand finals.
The Under 13's took part in an early morning 20-20 game, before the temperature hit the mid-thirties, and then hit the pool!
The grand final will now be a 30 over match played on Sunday 16th March at Gepps Cross.
The Under 17's final V Modbury will be a one-day match at Modbury on Sunday March 16th.

The Under 13's bowled against Modbury on day 1 of their final two day match of the season, before the grand final. Wickets fell at regular intervals but the tail wagged and Modbury posted a competitive total of 9/146. Their batsmen showed great discipline.
On day 2 of the match our boys showed real commitment against some excellent bowling and fielding from Modbury. Solid contributions from Mohammed-44, Cam-26, Scott-24, Jordan-22 and Joshua A.-21 not out, saw the boys score 8 for 193. Bradley and Ben batted very well too.

All of this season's games have been played in great spirit by the boys from all teams. Unfortunately the same can't be said for one or two coaches/umpires.

The boys are looking forward to the grand final against Golden Grove on Sunday 9th and 16th.

With our first footy trial games just 4 weeks away we still have vacancies for boys turning 12 and 15 in 2008. The Under 13's, 14's and 16's will take new players only if experienced and fit! The Under 6's to Under 11's always welcome new boys and girls turning 5 to 11 in 2008.

The Under 13 game against Gaza was abandoned due to soaring temperatures. But 4 Gaza boys and some of our Under 15's plus some mums and dads joined our Under 13's in a 20-20 game. The temperature was reasonable in the morning. Everyone had a great time and we thank the Gaza boys for taking part, they were fantastic. Yours truly was run out for a duck but took a wicket, although I felt a little guilty bowling a 10 year old!

After a disasterous match against Golden Grove a few weeks ago, the Under 15's bounced back with a comfortable win in their final match of the season. Lee's first 50 was a highlight.

Cricket Update Feb 08

The Under 13's took on Eastern Suburbs at Tregenza Oval over two Sundays, the 3rd & 10th of February.
Excellent bowling and fielding from Easts restricted us to 158 from our 50 overs. Having quite a few boys unavailable for the first day didn't help our cause. Jacob's first 50 and Mohammed's 42 were the highlights.
We had to restict the home team to less than 158 to ensure a place in the grand final.
A wicket from the first ball of the innings, one of four to Joshy P, and solid contributions from the other boys restricted Easts to 113, all out.
It will be great credit to such a young team to make the grand final, probably against Golden Grove.
The Under 15's struggled in the field against Ingle Farm and the hosts scored an impressive total. Gepps fell plenty of runs short in the run chase, with most of the score coming from the middle and tail.

2008 Cricket Update

After a month's break the Under 13's were back in action in a 30 over match against Gaza. Early drizzle soon cleared but the top order struggled against some good bowling. Mohammed, with 35 not out, helped us to a competitve total of 6 for 104.

Gaza seemed reluctant to take quick singles and the loss of 2 early wickets made the going tough for the home team. Josh, 3 for 4, Jacob and Chris, 2 wickets each, and Ollie 1 for 2, restricted Gaza to 9 for 74 at the end of their 30 overs.

We now have 12 boys who can bowl reasonably straight and that is the key to success in 30-over-a-side games.

The win over Gaza was followed by another 30 over match, this time against Modbury. Modbury is the only team to have beaten the Under 13's so far, back in round 2. This time the result was reversed with Gepps Cross scoring a comfortable win. Mohammed and Scott top scored, with Ollie and Cam both 6 not out.

Following a disasterous performance against Golden Grove - we were dismissed for 22! - the Under 15's bounced back with an easy win over Modbury. The team is in contention for the finals after looking shaky since Christmas.

The Under 17's have won both their matches in the New Year, beating Modbury and Hope Valley.

2007-08 cricket: Half-way through the season.

The Under 13's have been training each Wednesday and Friday. Bearing in mind there are four 10 year olds and one 9 year old in the team their performances have been excellent.

Being the youngest team in the competition and topping the ladder at the half-way mark of the season is a huge confidence booster for the boys.

The prospect of opening the season with a win was spoilt by the weather after the boys scored 8/180+ against Hope Valley in round 1, only to be denied the chance to bowl due to rain. Mohammed's 71 n.o. and Cam's 38 were highlights.

After an ordinary performance against Modbury the boys bounced back against Golden Grove, restricting G/Grove to 165 and, in reply, scoring 5/210. Mohammed's 58* and Steven's 40 were highlights.

The team won their 2 day match against Hope Valley outright. They scored 3/91 in their first innings and 0/78 in reply to Valley's 67 and 83 all out. 10 year old Steven T is proving to be a magnificent all-rounder, although nearly every player took wickets.

In the final match for 2007, a one-dayer against Eastern Suburbs, the Under 13's batted well to reach 7/124 off their 30 overs. The welcome return of Cameron after a break was a huge boost! Once again Steven top scored with 25 and there were valuable contibutions from all players. Having only 10 boys turn up for the match left a gap or two when we fielded but Eastern Suburbs fell 23 runs short. Josh's bowling was superb, taking 3 for 3 off 4 overs.

Jordan Charles and John Righetti have been the backbone of the Under 15's, Bradley Bignell's return has been a huge bonus as he excells with bat and ball!

After having Pooraka on the ropes at 7/27 the hosts staged a brilliant fightback, scoring 199. Our top order struggled, although John and Glen batted well. Pooraka's bowling and fielding was top class.

The boys struggled against quality bowling and fielding by Ingle Farm in the final match of the year. When the top order fails the wheels seem to fall off all too easily.

December Update

The 2008 Under 13 squad has been training each Tuesday evening during November. A number of excellent new players have joined our 2007 Under 12's and, under new coach Tony Tanner, they've showed how determined they are to improve on a disappointing season. Attendance has been excellent.

The 2008 Under 16's commence regular training on Wednesday, January 9, at 6.30pm. New players turning 16 in 2008 are most welcome. Boys turning 17 after October 1 next year are also eligible to play Under 16 football.

PLAYERS NEEDED FOR 2008

Have no doubt we welcome ALL players aged 5 to 17 for the 2008 season. Boys aged 13 to 17 should have footy experience at school or club level, or be reasonably fit from playing another sport.

Every year every club needs new children turning 5 or 6 to compete in the Under 6 competition. We have a fantastic record with this age group at the Rams, with the majority of children who try Under 6 footy continuing in the older age groups. But we recognise that many children want to try every sport and some simply don't enjoy footy. Being active is the most important thing. In 2008 we will need many 5 and 6 year olds to form our two teams of 15.

We have three Under 8 teams, Red, White and Blue, and any new children turning 7 or 8 will play in the 4th, 'Gold' team.

We need a few children turning 9 as the majority of this year's Under 8's will be Under 8's again in 2008. We have an excellent new Under 9 coach in Dean Toy who brings a considerable amount of experience with him from WA.

Under 10's and Under 11's numbers are healthy, although we won't turn away new players.

We definately need a few new Under 12's as the 2007 Under 11's had many underage players making up the numbers. Despite that the team did really, really well and will benefit from more boys turning 12 in 2008.

The 2008 Under 13's have already recruited well, with some fantastic players from other clubs having already joined.

The Under 14's, 2007 premiers in Under 13's, will need new quality players as they will probably play up in the 'Red' division. Experienced boys turning 14 next year are very welcome!

For next year's Under 15's the key will be all the current players having a solid pre-season AND picking up a few key players from elsewhere. We are pleased that four boys from other clubs have joined.

Finally, any new Under 16's for 2008 will be welcome. After finishing minor premiers but missing the grand final the team is absoulutely committed to going one better next year.

2008 Coaches

Most coaching positions for 2008 have been filled, but there are a couple of vacancies. The Under 6's will need a new coach with 2007 coaches, Andrew Simpson and Malcolm Pert, joining Craig Dixey as Under 8 coaches. We will probably need a fourth Under 8's coach in 2008.

Ex WAFL player, Dean Toy, will coach the Under 9's while the very experienced Malcolm Riddle will be in charge of the Under 10's.

Tania Spriggs will look after the 2008 Under 11's in their first season playing for premiership points and Heath Harrison will take this year's Under 11's up to Under 12's.

Ex Para Hills coach, Tony Tanner, will be in charge of the Under 13's. Welcome Tony and new players Andrew and Jack!

After taking the Under 13's to a premiership Greg Richardson will coach the 2008 Under 14's.

We are awaiting confirmation of an Under 15's coach and Darren West, who coached the Under 15's to the minor premiership in 2007, will look after the Under 16's.

We appreciate the contribution of Under 16's premiership coach, Neil Rawlings, for his huge contribution to the Club, both on and off the field, since 2004.

Under 13's and Under 16's - 2007 Premiers!

On Sunday September 9 the Under 13's headed to Gaza for play for premiership glory against Pooraka. Despite having lost to Pooraka twice this season the boys were very relaxed and calm before the match. Gepps Cross started brilliantly, scoring the first couple of goals, one an absolute gem by Ollie Markov from the Under 11's. Pooraka fought back in the second term and at half-time the scores were level, 5 goals 1 each. The second half was dominated by Gepps Cross, scoring 4 goals to two behinds to run out comfortable winners. Despite the absence of two regular Under 13's, Graeme and Jacob, the Under 11's and 12's who 'filled in' were superb under pressure. The boys showed over the last three weeks, with wins over Eastern Park, Athelstone and Pooraka in the finals, that when they play at their best they are simply superb! All credit to 'rookie' coach Greg Richardson too!

The Under 16's were expected to win easily in their premiership decider against Broadview. After dominating the first quarter the boys relaxed too much in the second and Broadies fought back. A quiet word fron the coach, Neil Rawlings, at half-time saw the boys do what they had to do in the second half to claim a comfortable win. Most of the 16's have toiled for four years for their success. Some much longer.
As Under 13's in 2004 they just missed the finals. As 14's in 2005 they were beaten by Payneham in the semi-final. Last year they finished 6th.

Association Best-and-Fairest count

The North Eastern Metro Junior Football Association best and fairest count was held at Gepps Cross on Friday, September 9th.

In a great night for the Gepps Cross Juniors Ben Rawings from the Under 16's and Alex Guy from the Under 15's were voted B&F's in their respective grades.

Caleb Warren was voted runner-up to Ben in the 16's and Oleg Markov was runner-up in the Under 11's. A fantastic result for a boy who has been playing football for just 12 months!

In the other grades Hayden Harrison from the 11's, Andrew Clark from the 12's, Lasana Sesay and Terrance Curley from the 13's, Peter Verigan from the 14's and Hayden Heffernan and Shaun Buckley from the 15's all polled well.
