With the home-and-away season now completed on Sunday, August 26, it's time for three teams, Under 13's, Under 15's and Under 16's, to compete in the finals. It's the first time since 2005 that we've been involved in finals action.
The two Under 6 teams completed their season with 2 narrow losses but all the children should be proud of the way they have developed in 2007. The Under 8's Red and Blue finished the season on a high with both teams winning. The Under 9's went down narrowly to Athelstone while the Under 10's reversed that result and scored a close win. The Under 11's, 12's and 14's, with 7, 1 and 2 wins respectively, will have to wait until 2008 to compete again.
The Under 13's, having won 10 of 15 games, finished third and faced fourth placed Eastern Park at Payneham Oval. The team dominated the first three quarters after which the coach had the luxury of resting some key players. A comfortable win with some outstanding contributions from some players who had had a 'quiet' season so far. The boys will play Athelstone in the preliminary final.
The Under 15's, finishing second with 12 wins from 14 games, took on Eastern Park at Ingle Farm. The boys looked flat footed and unmotivated as the Parks cruised to a much too comfortable win. They will play Athelstone in the prelim final and will have to improve 100% to make the grand final on the 9th.
The Under 16's finished second on percentage to North Pines. It was one-all in the home-and-away games and we expected this one to be close. And it was - for about 20 minutes. After quarter time Gepps dominated and ran away to an easy win. They have the week off now to prepare to, probably, take on the Pines once again in the premiership decider.
